Look for Opportunities
The Life of Abraham: Living Out God’s Story | Successful Service
Bible Reference: Genesis 18:1-15
Day 36 | Successful Service - Look for Opportunities
Gen 18:1-2
The LORD appeared to Abraham at the oaks of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance of his tent during the heat of the day. 2 He looked up, and he saw three men standing near him.
Why was Abraham sitting at the entrance of his tent during the heat of the day? We believe that it was because Abraham was so kind as to always be looking out for opportunities to serve anyone who was travelling- and it just happened that the people he served on this particular day in the account was God Himself and His angels.
“Jesus not only saved us from sin- He saved us to serve. ”
Galatians 5:13-14
For you were called to be free, brothers and sisters; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love. For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement: Love your neighbour as yourself.
Jesus not only saved us from sin- He saved us to serve. Sometimes we might fall into the error of being passive when it comes to serving others.
If you are unsure about whether an opportunity to serve is suitable for you, you may find the following as a guide:
Check your giftings – ensure your service matches your level of skills/experience/spiritual gifts
Check your availability – how frequent are you able to commit to a particular service?
Check your approval – do you have valid approval from the authorities?
Are you in a place of service to those around you? Maybe God has highlighted a particular area in which you may be able to be of service. It should involve practical action on your part as God prompts your heart into action.
