Obeying God is being Loved by God
The Life of Abraham: Living Out God’s Story | Marked by Obedience
Bible Reference: Genesis 17:1-17
Day 30 | Marked by Obedience - Obeying God is being Loved
Gen 17:1-2
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him, saying, “I am God Almighty. Live in my presence and be blameless. 2 I will set up my covenant between me and you, and I will multiply you greatly.”
“Is your obedience based in love, or fear? Godly obedience is always based in love and grounded in faith in the character of God. ”
God comes to Abram and tells him His name. It has been about 13 years since his last encounter with God. God Almighty calls Abram into an action of obedience – to live in His presence and be blameless. He does this because Abram has had a relationship with God.
Love is the foundation of Abram’s obedience to God and it should be the same for you and I.
True obedience is filled with joy, peace and gratitude because it understands that Jesus loves us and wants the best for us, no matter how difficult the process of obedience might seem.
1 John 4:18-19
There is no fear in love; instead, perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment. So the one who fears is not complete in love. We love because He first loved us.
Is your obedience based in love, or fear? Godly obedience is always based in love and grounded in faith in the character of God. May you grow to see that obedience is a loving path crafted for us by our loving God.
