Obeying God is being Transformed by God
The Life of Abraham: Living Out God’s Story | Marked by Obedience
Bible Reference: Genesis 17:1-17
Day 31 | Marked by Obedience - Obeying God is being Transformed
Genesis 17:3
Then Abram fell facedown and God spoke with him: 4 “As for me, here is my covenant with you: You will become the father of many nations. 5 Your name will no longer be Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I will make you the father of many nations. 15 God said to Abraham, “As for your wife Sarai, do not call her Sarai, for Sarah will be her name. 16 I will bless her; indeed, I will give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she will produce nations; kings of peoples will come from her.”
“Obeying God allows God to begin a work of transformation within us – a work that makes us better than we were before- an expanding work. ”
As Abram worships God, God changes the names of both Abram and Sarai – He expands who they used to be. Obeying God allows God to begin a work of transformation within us – a work that makes us better than we were before- an expanding work. We begin to think, change and act according to what Jesus tells us to instead of what we were used to. Without obedience, it is impossible to become all that God has planned for us to become.
Maybe the process of obedience is commonly painful because it requires us to break out into a bigger version of who God made us to be. Whatever the transformation is, sovereign God has a beautiful plan worked out for you.
Proverbs 1:8-9
My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and be a chain of honor around your neck.
2 Corinthians 3:18
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
